FAQ

Yes. Too frequently parents can be overheard speaking about how difficult it is to complete homework with their children. It sometimes can be challenging due to the new strategies being taught in school, while other times it is simply the fact that kids do not like homework. Having a tutor assist your child with their homework decreases anxiety and stress for you and your child, guarantees homework completion, and reinforces study skills. In addition, if an area of confusion arises, there is a certified K-5 educator there to help identify the reason for confusion and offer both direct instruction and strategies to alleviate the misunderstanding.

Can tutoring sessions be just for homework help?

The tutoring sessions typically take place at your local library. Alternate locations in your area can be discussed.

Where do the tutoring sessions occur?

A2Z Tutoring works primarily with students in Passaic, Bergen, Morris, and Essex Counties.

What areas do you tutor in?
What's the minimum time to work with a tutor?

The minimum time for tutoring would be one hour a week, per subject. It is difficult to specify how much tutoring time is needed since every child learns at different rates and will be working on skills specific to their needs. An appropriate time schedule will be determined after Amanda has worked with the child and established clear goals with the parents. This will allow her to get a better grasp on how much prior knowledge the child has, what type of learner he or she is, what motivates the child, and how quickly they pick up on instruction.

Yes.  It is asked that you give at least one night's notice if you are going to cancel a tutoring session.  If a session is not properly canceled, you are required to pay 50% of the tutoring rate.  Understandably, emergencies do occur last minute, in which case you should call or email Amanda as soon as possible.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Absolutely.  Unless the tutoring sessions are for enrichment purposes, the goal of tutoring is to give students the knowledge base, strategies, and confidence to work independently.6

Is it possible for a student to no longer need tutoring?
Is tutoring only for struggling students?

No.  Although most individuals associate tutoring with students who are struggling, many parents utilize it as a source of enrichment for their children.  Due to large class sizes, it can be difficult for teachers to offer children customized, challenging, and educationally stimulating tasks.  Since tutoring is one-on-one and individualized, it is the ideal environment for enrichment.
